Cathryn + Jeremy

Cathryn and Jeremy came to me while she was finishing medical school. They were both quiet, introverted, kind people for whom family was central and the idea of a wedding, frankly, was not. They seemed unambivalent about celebration itself and they were sold on the opportunity to support a coastal Maine farm venue that had been dear to Cathryn years before but they were fitful about the fanfare, wary about being the center of anyone’s attention (except maybe each other!), and resistant about the pretense of weddings—and the wedding industry. We partnered to plan their wedding through a process that felt gentle, practical, and grounded. We chose vendors who shared these sensibilities; as a team, we centered decisions on the fulcrum of their values and even when loved ones may have wished for more pomp, we kept the frills trim. What resulted was a bright, simple, down-to-earth day that protected the values of humility and grace that drew them toward one another as partners from the outset.
